1) Silk-covered album, 24 x 30 cm, with 16 panels for cartes-de-visite, with dedication in Kanji “We present this to Dr. Riess as a memorial July 1902 – Japanese friends and students”, see Wikipedia in English, Japanese and German to Ludwig Riess 1821–1928, he was professor at the university of Tokyo 1887–1902 for history. The album is complete with 128 cards, all Japanese with Europeanized names, some with pencil notes of the profession and status of the subjects, several with autographs. A document of the intellectual elite of Japan. Album in new like condition, only the clasp is missing. (2/2) – 2) Album, 35 x 27 cm, wood covers with raised lacquered motif of Fujiyama, 9 hand-painted panels for varying formats, containing 2 cabinet cards from 1898 of the ambassador Kiyoura (?) and his wife in Tokyo, 2 cartes-de-visite from Berlin 1891 with handwritten greetings in Kanji, edge of cover dented, otherwise in good condition. (3/3) – 3) Deluxe album, 36 x 28 cm, with fine artistic lacquer motif of a ship on the high seas, containing 11 hand-painted panels with 45 photographs of Americans: “Presented to George Whitfield by his yachting friends in Japan 1890”, edge of the cover dented. (3/3) – 4) Empty album, 35 x 27 cm, with loose covers, a carved bird scene on the front, with 9 hand-painted panels for postcard formats. 1) Seidenbezogenes Album 24 x 30 cm mit 16 Tafeln für Cartes de Visite, vorne mit Widmung in Kanji “Wir überreichen dies Herrn Doktor Riess als Erinnerung Juli 1902 – Japanische Freunde und Studenten”. Ludwig Riess, 1821–1928, lehrte 1887–1902 an der Universität Tokio Geschichtswissenschaften, s.a. Riess’ Eintrag Wikipedia in Deutsch, Japanisch und Englisch. Das Album ist vollständig mit 128 Karten, alles nur Japaner mit europäisierten Namen, zum Teil mit Bleistiftanmerkungen zu Beruf und Stand, etliche mit Autogramm. Ein Zeitdokument der intellektuellen Elite Japans. Album hervorragend wie neu erhalten, nur die Schließe fehlt. (2/2) – 2) Album 35 x 27 cm, Holzdeckel mit Lackarbeit des Fujiyama, 9 handbemalte Tafeln zum Einschieben unterschiedlicher Formate. Deckelrand bestoßen, sonst gut erhalten. Mit 2 Kabinettkarten von 1898 des Botschafters Kiyoura (?) in Tokio und seiner Frau, dazu 2 Cartes de Visite aus Berlin 1891 von Japanern mit handschriftlichen Grüßen in Kanji. (3/3) – 3) Luxus-Album 36 x 28 cm mit hervorragender künstlerischer Lackarbeit eines Schiffs auf hoher See. Der Inhalt sind 11 handbemalte Tafeln mit 45 Photographien von Amerikanern: “Presented to George Whitfield by his yachting friends in Japan 1890”, Rand des Deckels mit Bestoßung. (3/3) – 4) Leer-Album 35 x 27 cm, mit losen Deckeln, vorne eine geschnitzte Vogelszene, mit 9 handbemalten Tafeln für Postkartenformate.
