Magic Lantern by Rose and Strips from Nuremberg

Johann Christian Wolfgang Rose, Nuremberg. From the period 1793 to 1825. Tinplate case, 126 mm high, base plate 144.5 x 79.5 mm, a chimney was never included. Designed for strips 49 mm wide with a maximum thickness of 7 mm. The 2-element lens (rear element added) allows for image details up to 38 mm in size, with internal reflector. Both sides and the top are embossed. The back has a folding handle; the upper handle bears the Rose logo (a stylized rose). The door clasp and handle hinges are made of brass. – In additioin: Glass strips with red-striped borders: 3 hand-painted strips measuring 197 x 43 mm depicting military scenes, 11 hand-painted strips measuring 143 x 39 mm (including a paddle steamer), 10 colored strips measuring 205 x 55 mm, and 9 strips (presumably colored) measuring 197 x 55.5 mm with stylistically simplified, almost artistic motifs. – In addition: Two matching boxes with red and white coverings for the larger strips and 2 damaged strips measuring 155 x 40 mm.– From the early days of the Nuremberg toy industry!

Johann Christian Wolfgang Rose, Nürnberg. Aus der Zeit von 1793 bis 1825. Weißblechgehäuse Höhe 126 mm, Grundplatte 144,5 x 79,5 mm, ein Schornstein war nie vorgesehen, für 49 mm breite Streifen bei maximaler Dicke von 7 mm. Die 2-linsige Optik (Rücklinse ergänzt) erlaubt maximal 38 mm große Bilddetails, innen mit Reflektor. Beide Seitenflächen mit Prägemuster, ebenso am Dach. Die Rückseite hat einen zusammenklappbaren Griff, am oberen Griff ist das Prägemuster von Rose (stilisierte Rose). Die Türschließe und die Scharniere des Griffs sind aus Messing. – Dabei: Glas-Streifen mit rot gestreiften Einfassungen: 3 handgemalte Streifen in 197 x 43 mm von Militärszenen, 11 handgemalte Streifen 143 x 39 mm (darunter ein Raddampfer), 10 kolorierte Streifen in 205 x 55 mm und 9 Streifen (vermutlich koloriert) 197 x 55,5 mm von stilistisch stark minimierten, fast künstlerischen Motiven. – Dabei Zwei passende Schachteln mit rot-weißen Bezug für die größeren Streifen und 2 beschädigte Streifen 155 x 40 mm. – Aus der Frühzeit der Nürnberger Spielzeugindustrie!
