Fairchild Camera and Industry Corp., Syosset, N.Y. K-38 reconnaissance camera, serial no. 54-492, for 23 x 46 cm on aerial film, consisting of camera body, cone with lens, and film magazine. Mechanics and lens are in correct working order. Electrical components are untested (28 V/6 Amp). Dimensions with magazine: 100 x 54 x 35 cm. Camera: The shutter cocking mechanism (crank) and release, as well as the optical shutter, function (the loud bang is original). Camera counter reads 09329. Optical cone: “Lens Cone 36 inch for K-38 Camera”, with Bell & Howell, Chicago Type I 8/36 inch (923 mm) Telephoto lens, serial no. 3207, yellow dot for coating, movable aperture, testing with a point light not possible, but front and rear lens groups clean when illuminated with a point light. Magazine: Ryan Industries Inc., Detroit. Magazine Film Aircraft Camera Type A-8B MIL-M-1421 B, Serial No. AF-53-4327, film suction plate with heating element, both rubber rollers clean and grippy. – Camera was in active use, clear signs of wear; this type of camera is also said to have been on board U-2 flights (U-2 still in service until 2022, for example over Ukraine). An impressive exhibit for any aviation and military museum. Because for aerial reconnaissance, the aircraft were built around the cameras, not the other way around!

AF-53-4327, Filmansaugung mit Heiz-Element, beide Gummiwalzen sauberer, griffiger Zustand. – Kamera war in aktivem Einsatz, deutliche Benutzungsspuren, dieser Typus Kamera soll auch bei den U2-Flügen (U2 noch bis 2022 im Einsatz, etwa Ukraine) an Bord gewesen sein. Eindrucksvolles Ausstellungsstück für jedes Luftfahrt-und Militärmuseum. Denn zur Luftaufklärung wurden die Flugzeuge um die Kameras gebaut, nicht umgekehrt!
