Bonatz “Berolina” Spiegel-Reflex-Camera, 1901

Paul Bonatz, Photographische Manufaktur, Invaliden-Str. 108, Berlin N. SLR camera for landscape format 9 x 12 cm, compact, lightweight, yet sturdy construction, the internal mechanism is reminiscent of Hesekiel his SLR. The mirror returns to the reflex position after the shutter is released. The mirror is still in good condition, the focal plane shutter does not release, one pin is missing, the cloth is still in good condition, a millimeter scale for the slit width is located to the left of the cloth, and the image is accurate to infinity without extending the camera. The lens: “Extra Rapid Aplanat 9 x 12” 8/15 cm with 6-piece aperture set, fold-out eyepiece with a crease, and a focusing screen back. Reference: Photographische Mitteilungen 1901, 38th year, issue 24, advertising section. A similar version can be found in Abring 1978 – Volume I Von Daguerre bis Heute, p. 134, but with an attribution to Paul Reichardt, Berlin. An extremely rare and little-known reflex camera from a small manufacturer. Never before featured at our auctions.

Spiegelreflexkamera für Querformat 9 x 12 cm, kompakt, leicht und doch stabil zugleich konstruiert, die innere Mechanik erinnert an Hesekiel seine SLR, der Spiegel fällt nach dem Auslösen wieder in Reflex-Stellung zurück, Spiegel noch gut, Schlitzverschluß löst nicht aus, ein Stiftchen fehlt, Tuch noch gut, links neben dem Tuch Millimeter-Skala für Schlitzbreite, genaues Bild auf Unendlich ohne Kamera-Auszug, Optik: “Extra Rapid Aplanat 9 x 12” 8/15 cm mit 6-teiligem Steckblenden-Satz, ausfaltbare Augenklappe mit einem Knick, mit Mattscheiben-Rückteil. Beleg: Photographische Mitteilungen 1901 38. Jahrg. Heft 24, Anzeigenteil. Eine ähnliche Version ist unter Abring 1978 – Band I Von Daguerre bis Heute, S. 134, doch mit einer Zuweisung zu Paul Reichardt, Berlin. Äußerst seltene und kaum bekannte Reflexkamera eines kleinen Herstellers. Noch nie auf unseren Auktionen.
