Acoustic Torpedo Deceiver, 1945

Developed by the German Kriegsmarine for torpedo defence from 1943 onwards, lg. 105 in., weight 300 kg, case stamped no. 1945. – Note: The floating body was towed on a steel cable approx. 25 to 30 meters behind the ship and simulated the sound of the ship’s propeller with a Bosch electric motor. The acoustic torpedo mistook the deceiver for the ship and exploded on impact with the floating body. After the end of the war, the remaining units were scrapped. Only six examples of this device are thought still to exist, five in Europe and one in Russia.

Akustischer Torpedo-Täuscher, 1945
Von der deutschen Kriegsmarine ab 1943 zur Torpedo-Abwehr entwickelter Täuscher. Der Schwimmkörper wurde an einem Stahlseil circa 25 bis 30 Meter hinter dem Schiff her gezogen und simulierte mit einem Bosch-Elektromotor das Geräusch der Schiffsschraube. Der akustische Torpedo (z.B. U Mark 27 Kaliber 533 mm) verwechselte den Täuscher mit dem Schiff und explodierte beim Aufprall mit dem Schwimmkörper. Länge 265 cm, Gewicht 300 kg. Gehäuse mit Prägung und Nr. 1945. – Nur 6 Exemplare dieses akustischen Geräts sind noch vorhanden, 5 in Europa und 1 in Rußland. Nach Kriegsende wurden diese verschrottet oder sie liegen auf dem Meeresboden.
